Shah Rukh Khan joins Tussauds' India gallery

Shah Rukh Khan

London : Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan became the latest Indian to be featured in the Madame Tussauds museum when his life-size wax statue was unveiled here Tuesday morning.

Shah Rukh is the third Indian actor to figure in the popular tourist attraction - the other two are Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. The actor was present with his family when his statue was unveiled.

The decision to have a wax model of King Khan was based on feedback received from thousands of visitors and tourists who visit the museum featuring prominent personalities every year.

A spokesman of the museum said that Shah Rukh's statue reflected the growing popularity of Indian films in Britain, which are now watched not only by British Asians but others too.

Guests will be allowed to stand next to Shah Rukh's duplicate and take pictures. The backdrop of the statue could be changed - to one from the star's latest hit "Don", the spokesman added.

Other Indians featuring in the museum include former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

Abhishek and Aishwarya seem inseparable

Abhishek and Aishwarya

Mumbai : With the wedding around the corner, Abhishek Bachchan and his fiancée Aishwarya Rai are trying to spend maximum time with each other and their schedules seem to be getting progressively clogged.

They attended the Zee awards ceremony in Malaysia Sunday. On the very next day Abhishek accompanied his bride-to-be to London for the international premiere Tuesday of her much-awaited film on domestic violence titled "Provoked".

Producer Murli Manohar told IANS: "Although Abhishek is not directly related to the film in any way, he kindly consented to accompany Aishwarya to London for the premiere at the prestigious Empire theatre at Leicester Square."

Curiously, there will be no premiere for "Provoked" in Mumbai. Aishwarya, who had earlier gone out of her way to promote the film, had no time to do so. The film opens in four languages - Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu - in India.

"We had the film's director Jagmohan Mundhra and the real-life protagonist Kiranjit Ahluwalia, on whose true-life story 'Provoked' is based, travelling to various parts of India. Hopefully, the film's theme of domestic violence would ring a bell all over the country," said Manohar.

Incidentally, "Provoked" is Aishwarya's first international release since the lukewarmly received "Bride & Prejudice" and the disastrous "Mistress Of Spices".

In both "Bride..." and "Provoked", the former Miss World plays a Punjabi girl, though a far unhappier one in the latter.

She now has another international film, "The Last Legion", up for release. In India, this year she just has one movie - Ashutosh Gowariker's historical drama "Jodha-Akbar".

In "Provoked", Aishwarya made no physical preparations to play the battered wife.

"I didn't try to look like Kiranjit. There's no physical resemblance between us. But I did connect with her in less apparent ways, met up with her a number of times," Aishwarya had said in an earlier interview.

"Domestic violence or violence of any kind between a man and a woman is a horrific state to be in. This has been one of my most challenging roles to date," the actress added

'Shakalaka...' - Darshan's take on music industry

Suneel Darshan

New Delhi : Suneel Darshan's musical drama "Shakalaka Boom Boom" releasing Friday captures the rivalry, jealousy, betrayal, passion and desperation faced by the music industry.

Set against the backdrop of the international music scene, the film starring Booby Deol, Upen Patel, Celina Jaitley and Kangana Ranaut delves into the complex relationship of two dramatically different men who have only one thing in common - their passion for music.

The film revolves around singer-composer AJ (Bobby) who is at the pinnacle of success and popularity. He has earned everything through sheer hard work and will not allow anybody to overtake him.

However, Reggie (Upen), a talented newcomer, is hell-bent on getting to the top in the music business. He wants to be where AJ is. Reggie's hunger for success is only matched by his hunger to make music. His tragedy is that hedoesn't struggle to make music - he struggles to get noticed.

And Sheena (Celina) an ambitious PR professional aggressively promotes him.But she gets jealous when Ruhi, a lovely young singer (Kangana), enters Reggie's life. Now Sheena will do everything in her power to destroy him because he has spurned her.

As the story moves on, Juhi also unwittingly comes between AJ and Reggie. And when the two musicians face each other in a do or die battle, envy and betrayal show their ugly faces.

Darshan's last two films with Bobby Deol - "Dosti: Friends Forever" and "Barsaat" - fell flat at the box office. So "Shakalaka Boom Boom's" success is crucial to both their careers. The film's success will also play a decisive role in determining Upen's future in filmdom.

Music plays an important role in the success of any Hindi film. Luckily, music lovers have lapped up "Shakalaka Boom Boom's" songs.

Kareena - the next item goddess

Kareena - the next item goddess

Mumbai : Just when you think you've seen every look of hers, Kareena Kapoor surprises you with another stunner.

After doing an item song in "Don", Kareena has done a sizzling number in "Kya Love Story Hai". Looking a lot slimmer and more gorgeous, Kareena is truly amazing in the way she portrays herself and seems like perfect diva material.

The peppy number has you tapping your feet throughout. Overall, it is an absolute winner and Kareena just rocks all the way.

The movie, directed by Lovely Singh, has music by Pritam and stars the girl-next-door Ayesha Takia and Tusshar Kapoor. The audio rights of the Kareena song have been acquired by T-Series.

Top 10 heroines who swept the audience away in 2011

Top 10 heroines
Women-centric themes added power to the Bollywood platter this year and the leading ladies impressed with their boldness and intense acting. Actors like Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif gave the industry's menfolk a run for their money. Here're top 10 heroines of
2011:
1. Vidya Balan: She started the year with a stellar performance as a deglamorised, strong-willed simpleton in the real-life inspired No One Killed Jessica, and featured in cameos in Thank You, Dum Maaro Dum and Malayalam film Urumi. But for the 33-year-old 'bombaat' actor, 2011 ended with a bang with her sizzling portrayal of a dancing star, Silk, in The Dirty Picture. Vidya explored new realms to her acting potential, and emerged as a winner, overshadowing other commercially hit Bollywood divas.
2. Kareena Kapoor: Two films and both hits! Even after over a decade, Kareena stood out among her contemporaries with the record-breaker Bodyguard opposite Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan's mega-production RA.One. She also proved her dancing mettle once again with Chammak challo, which went on to be a huge chartbuster.
3. Priyanka Chopra: After an average 2010, Priyanka Chopra sprang back into action by carrying out seven different looks in Vishal Bharadwaj's critically-acclaimed 7 Khoon Maaf. In the character of a serial spouse-killer, Sussanna, the actress has displayed why she is a National Award winner at such a young age. She will round up the year as Shah Rukh Khan's 'junglee billi' in the much-awaited Don 2: The King Is Back.
4. Katrina Kaif: As a free-spirited, independent girl in the multi-starrer Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, as a sexy item girl in Bodyguard or as the effervescent Dimple Dixit in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, this Britain-born girl has been proving her range with every passing year.
5. Kalki Koechlin: With four diverse films -- Shaitan, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, That Girl in Yellow Boots and My Friend Pinto - Kalki has been on a roll this year! Her easy and fluid portrayal of a mentally disturbed girl, a nagging girlfriend, a girl in search of her father, and a lost girl abandoned by her boyfriend, have reassured cine-buffs of her capacity as a new age, commercially-viable actress, who dares to choose different roles.
6. Kangana Ranaut: Year 2011 saw Kangana in a new avatar. As a bindaas Kanpur girl in Tanu Weds Manu, she gave her most desi performance ever. She followed it up with the role of a cop in Game, a supporting act in comedy films Double Dhamaal and Rascals, and featured in Miley Naa Miley Hum, which went unnoticed. However, Kangana's standing in the industry remains quite unaffected.
7. Rani Mukerji: Her fans got a treat after two years when Rani returned to the big screen in No One Killed Jessica. As a bold journalist, who gets the public together to demand justice for a cause, Rani delivered an image-breaking performance when she mouthed expletives and smoked a cigarette for the role.
8. Anushka Sharma: There's something that clicks about this Yash Raj Films find, despite average earners like Patiala House and Ladies VS Ricky Bahl in 2011. Anushka's vivaciousness, million-dollar smile and perfect dancing skills have catapulted her into the league of promising leading ladies of tinsel town today.
9. Deepika Padukone: At 25, Deepika has established herself as one of the more popular female stars of Hindi cinema. This year she strengthened her stance, not so much with her performances, but because of the elan with which she carried out the sultry song Mit Jaaye Gum; as the small town but confident girl in Aarakshan; and as the love interest of John Abraham in Desi Boyz.
10. Mahie Gill: Her films, Utt Patang, Not A Love Story and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster this year didn't mint enough money at the box office, but her performance, like always, was well noticed. The critically acclaimed actress continues to choose films away from tried-and-tested formulas, and garners appreciation galore.

Top 10 Bollywood actors that ruled 2011!

Top 10 Bollywood actors
From He-Man to funny man, from flamboyant to sombre - Bollywood's top notch actors have shone on the silver screen in various avatars and also kept the cash registers ringing. We list the top 10 actors of the year:
1) Salman Khan - He should be titled hit khan. If Bollywood's knight in shining armour bailed the industry out in 2009 and 2010, he boosted the box office business this year too with Bodyguard and Ready. In both, neither the content was premium, nor were the performances superlative, but what helped the actor stand out were the big bucks his films yielded at the box office, strengthening his position as a bankable star.
2) Aamir Khan: What one missed in Salman Khan's films was prominently present in Aamir Khan-starrer Dhobi Ghat. Aamir wowed his fans as a lonely painter in the directorial debut of his wife Kiran Rao, who deftly handled a bouquet of stories, travelling across various sections of society in the lanes and bylanes of Mumbai. The actor had just one release, that too, consciously designed for niche audiences, but everyone eulogised it, saying, "Wow! What a performance! What an actor!"
If that were not enough, Aamir was admired for daring to produce adult comedy Delhi Belly and the film's success further strengthened his image in volatile Bollywood.
3) Ranbir Kapoor: If his great grandfather, grandfather and parents are admired and respected for their cinematic genius, Ranbir Kapoor has proved that he is a true torch-bearer of the Kapoor khandan. The youngster excelled in his only release Rockstar, which was marred by a bad script. His role required a range of emotions and he stood out in every scene and kept the audiences hooked.
4) Shah Rukh Khan: Romance is his forte! But this time Shah Rukh Khan donned the garb of a superhero in RA.One to woo his fans. Though the film was not appreciated much for its content, his fans liked him as a geek scientist and as a superhero. He also earned praise for the use of technology, innovative marketing and promotional techniques to promote his product.
5). Amitabh Bachchan: Retirement? No way, says Big B. Instead he is grabbing central roles at the age of 69 and this year too he came out with two films Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap and Aarakshan - as different as chalk and cheese. If the former saw him as a flamboyant underworld don, the latter featured him as a college principal fighting for the rights of students. In terms of business, neither were money spinners, but as far as acting is concerned, Amitabh is Amitabh. He was terrific in both the roles and critics gave him a thumbs up.
6) Farhan Akhtar: When there is a huge star cast, it is not easy to make an impression. But Farhan Akhtar did that in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which also starred Abhay Deol and Hrithik Roshan. The art of acting is all about sensitivity, emoting, feelings -and Farhan got them all right.
7) Hrithik Roshan: Usually seen in over-the-top roles, Hrithik Roshan for the first time did a role that was slightly offbeat and closer to reality. If Kites didn't allow him to fly high in the sky, his performance in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara helped him unleash his potential as an actor.
8) R. Madhvan: An NRI, who belongs to a middle-class family, returns home to find a wife. He encounters a drunken girl, who is not interested in marrying him. But her spirit is such that he falls head over heels in love with her and it becomes heartbreaking for him to let her go with some other guy. Madhavan not only suited the role, but he revelled in it, earning plaudits from both critics and fans.
9) Abhay Deol: He emerged as the dark horse. Be it a doomed lover in Dev D or a smart thief in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye, he has effortlessly carried his roles in the past. He continued his winning streak as a confused lover in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
10) Saif Ali Khan: This Khan showed his sparks in Omkara and after that he embarked on a journey that showed his versatility. This year he had just one release in Aarakshan, which was not a super hit, but the film's box office performance didn't overshadow Saif's work. Critics felt he scored very highly in sincerity, subtlety and sheer screen presence as a Dalit boy in the movie, highlighting the reservation issue.

SRK, Priyanka perform on Don 2's Dushman Mera

SRK, Priyanka perform on Don 2's Dushman Mera
Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra came to the Capital to promote Don 2, their next release. The duo shared an infectious vibe, floored all with wisecracks and performed on the number Dushman Mera.
They were here to release Don 2 comics ahead of the film's release on December 23.
SRK turned down a request to perform with his Don 2 co-star at first saying - "Don ko dance karna nahi aata", but later relented.
Delhi, though, is SRK's hometown, Priyanka Chopra too was given a warm welcome by Delhiites in the form of whistles and hoots, leading her to say, "Dilliwalon ko jungli billiyan bahut pasand hai."
When asked what's jungli billi's choice? The lady in black was quick to reply. "Jungli Billi ko bhi kutte bahut pasand hai," pointing toward SRK. SRK was quick to make a barking sound and interestingly asked the audience to do the same - "whoof, whoof," soon the sound reverberated in Metro line.
While performing on the song Dushman Mera, the duo hardly looked like jungli billi and err...kutta. Though they are hardly romancing each other in the film, their chemistry was rocking off-screen.
While Priyanka was clad in jeans and jacket, SRK, the Don, skipped winter wear in Dili Ki Sardi. He merrily hopped around in jeans and a cheque shirt. Don ko sardi nahi lagti? Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani too were suitably dressed for the weather.
SRK recently disappointed his Patna fans when he failed to promote his film there due to security issues. But he promises to visit Patna on December 22. On being asked if he's taking lesson in Bihari language, the actor wittily replied, "I will learn Bihari (language) from Priyanka Chopra. Afterall, she's from Jamshedpur."
But he certainly didn't disappoint Delhi as he mouthed his famous dialogue from Don 2 before signing off - "Don ka dushman jab tak apni agli chaal sochta hai, Don apni chaal chal chuka hota hai."

Shahrukh Khan advises fans to stay away from criminal activities

Shahrukh Khan
Actor Shahrukh Khan, who is playing a criminal in the movie Don 2, has advised people never to do such a thing which may put them behind bars. Sharing his experience during the shoot of upcoming film 'Don 2', Khan said that filming in (Malacca) prison in Malaysia was a learning experience for him and for other cast-members as well.

The Bollywood superstar was in Jaipur to promote his film Don 2 when he spoke about the criminal activities. Talking to PTI, Shahrukh Khan said, "It was a nice experience of shooting in a jail in Malaysia and what I learnt is that one should never do a thing which may end in imprisonment."

Shahrukh Khan added, “The prison we filmed in Malaysia was one of the advanced kinds having facilities for criminals, but when one is lodged in jail, his freedom ends... and we felt it during our shooting amid tight security arrangements."

However, Shahrukh was scheduled to come to Jaipur on Thursday evening, but he was stuck in Ahmedabad due to some technical snag in their aircraft and got delayed. Director Farhan Akhtar and actress Priyanka Chopra also attended the publicity event of Don 2, which was at Crystal Palm mall. Don 2 is slated to release on December 23.

After Don 2, Priyanka Chopra shooting for Krrish 2

Actress Priyanka Chopra has finished all the works of her upcoming films Don 2, which is scheduled to release on 23th December, and the actress has already moved on to the shooting for her another pending project Krrish 2. Katrina Kaif attends Salman Khan's nephew's birthday

Sallu and Kstrina
Actress Katrina Kaif, who was in a serious relationship with actor Salman Khan for several years, might have parted her ways from the Bollywood superstar in 2010. But she is still in good terms with Khan & Khandan and is working with Sallu in the film Ek tha Tiger. She also makes sure that she will attend major function of the Khan's family.

Recently, Katrina Kaif attended the Khan’s party held to celebrate the birthday of Sohail Khan’s son Nirvaan. Though the bash was attended by celebs like Alvira and Atul Agnihotri, Arpita and Fardeen Khan, Jacky Bhagnani and Amrita Arora, it was Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif who stole the limelight.

However, Salman Khan's nephew Nirvaan celebrated his birthday by holding a movie screening. His brother Arbaaz Khan's son Arhaan was also present to watch the film. Salman's father Salim Khan arrived early and was seen taking care of all the arrangements, reports the Times of India.

Ash to comeback with SRK!

The Bachchan bahu is all set to make a comeback in style. Sources claim that Aish has given her nod to be cast in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's long in the pipeline dream project.

Aish with SRK
The coming of mommy hood may have compelled Aishwarya Rai Bachchan into a brief hiatus, but ardent fans of the diva have more reason to rejoice, than her November born personal bundle of joy!
The Bachchan bahu is all set to make a comeback in style. Sources claim that Aish has given her nod to be cast in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's long in the pipeline dream project, titled Bajirao Mastani, which was first announced all the way back in 2003.
That Aishwarya is a favourite with more directors than not, is no secret; but with Bhansali, she has always ever been the first choice. So Aishwarya in bidding her chance for a comeback thought next to nothing in agreeing to pair up with her most patronizing director, for his self claimed best to come!
When Bhansali first finalized the script of Bajirao Mastani he wanted to pair his then favourite jodi, Salman Khan and Aish of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam fame. However, given the gore that has gone between these two ex lovers in the past that casting is no longer feasible. Stepping into the shoes of first choice macho Khan then, is touted to be King Khan Shahrukh himself. If buzz is to be believed, Bhansali is keenly pursuing his Devdas pairing of SRK and Aish now, and with Shah Rukh Khanreciprocating equal interest in the project, the likelihood of things coming together is high.

SRK offers Lady Gaga lead role in Bollywood film

Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan has offered the lead role to pop superstar Lady Gaga in his next movie.

SRK with Lady Gaga
Khan said that he would love to cast Gaga in one of his Bollywood productions during an interview on UTV in which the pair talked about love, shopping and music, the Mirror reported.
The ‘Born this way’ singer told Khan that she would love to be part of a Bollywood movie, but not as a leading actress instead “in a smaller role”.
“I don’t have any illusions of being a lead actress! Instead, I would like to be cast in a smaller role,” she said.
During their hour-long chat Khan also taught the singer how to speak some Hindi including how to address her “little monsters” when in India.
The pair also spoke about reincarnation, with the singer revealing that she believed in the concept of rebirth.
“I believe you can be reborn over and over again.
“I believe I was my father’s sister. My father’s sister died when she was 19 years old and I believe her spirit is with me and so I believe that I am her reincarnation.
“When I’m in America and I talk about it they look at me like I’m on crazy cakes,” she added.

It was difficult to change my sexy image: Neha Dhupia

Former Miss India Neha Dhupia started her Bollywood career with bold films like "Julie" and "Sheesha", but later she moved to performance-based roles with "Mithya". But the transition was not easy, she says.
Neha Dhupia

"A lot of hard work has gone into revamping the image of a sex symbol. People have built a perception in their minds and to change that I needed a lot of patience. I am happy that my hard work has paid off and today people don't see me just as a sex symbol," Neha told IANS in an interview.
Her "Julie" and "Sheesha" had a lot of skin show and the subject was bold too, but Neha changed track and did films like "Chup Chup Ke", "Delhi Heights" and "Dear Friend Hitler".
"I am really happy with the way my career has shaped up. People have started looking at me as an actress. I never planned anything. I have grown immensely as an actor as well as a human being during my career of eight years," she said.
"I have learnt a lot from the industry. I entered Bollywood as an amature, but the industry has taught me little nuances. I have met so many different people and I learnt a lot by just observing them. I have a lot of respect for my job," added the 31-year-old who was crowned Femina Miss India 2002.
Her first Bollywood film was 2003 release "Qayamat: City Under Threat" and she played Ajay Devgn's love interest.
Initially, newcomers are on signing spree, but Neha chose to move at a slower pace.
"Money has never been a driving factor for me. I want to be known as an actor. I don't want to do work just for the sake of doing it. My aim is just to do good work. Once money gets into your mind, the entire focus of your career goes haywire," she said.
After winning critical acclaim for her peformance as a female dacoit in "Phas Gaye Re Obama", Neha is gearing up for the release of her new film "Pappu Can't Dance Saala" with Vinay Pathak.
This is not the first time that Neha will be seen sharing screen space with Vinay, she has worked with him in "Raat Gayi Baat Gayi?", "Dasvidaniya" and "Mithya".
Directed by Saurabh Shukla, "Pappu Can't Dance Saala" is a romantic comedy and is slated for a Dec 16 release.
And to prepare for her role, the actress spent some time with the real-life backup dancers.
"By spending time with the backup dancers I have realised that they are very ambitious and passionate about their work and are very sorted in their mind. This is something which really important to achieve success," she said.
